La Puerta del Sol - The Sun’s Gate
This project began with a story.
Ruth shared with me a Venezuelan tradition, placing a mirror at the entrance of a home to reflect negative energy and protect the space within. That idea stayed with me, but I kept wondering: what if the mirror could do more than reflect? What if it could generate energy like a source, not just a shield?
From that thought, the composition took shape. The mirror became the sun, a central force, and the ceramic pieces were arranged around it like orbiting forms. Each piece is hand-built, carrying its own texture, weight, and presence, yet designed to exist in balance with the others. Together, they create a sense of movement, stillness, and quiet tension, a space where protection turns into radiance, and energy flows outward rather than being held back.
This work sits between sculpture and installation. It can expand, shift, and adapt to different spaces, while always maintaining its core idea: a gateway of harmony, balance, and power.
