Ceramic works at the intersection of form, surface, and space
I am a Persian-Australian artist working under the studio name TARAD, based in Perth, Australia. With a background in architecture, my practice is shaped by a spatial way of thinking that continues to influence how I approach form, composition, and material.
I work primarily with ceramics, drawn to its ability to hold both structure and softness simultaneously. My practice spans sculptural objects, wall-based works, and functional forms, which I approach as part of a continuous visual language rather than as separate categories.
In some of my works, the human figure, particularly the female form, appears as part of my sculptural practice.
My process is intuitive and material-led. I work between control and release, allowing the material to guide certain outcomes while maintaining an awareness of balance and structure. Texture plays an important role in my work, not only visually but in how it holds and communicates presence.
In my wall-based pieces, I explore composition, rhythm, and the relationships between individual elements. In larger forms, I’m interested in how volume, weight, and space interact.
Ultimately, I’m interested in how objects exist within space — how they shape atmosphere, carry a quiet emotional weight, and create a sense of presence within their surroundings.
